The Crystalyte line of electric bicycle kits are the highest quality hub motor kits on the market. There are different levels of power and different purposes for these motors, but I went right for the fastest kit that they produce, naturally. The Phoenix line of motors are the highest powered kits they make but there are three different models. The Brute, Cruiser, and the Racer electric bike kits make up the whole phoenix line of electric bicycle conversion kits. The Brute produces the most torque being wound for bottom end power band. The Cruiser produces the most power in the mid range of the RPMs, and the Racer is wound for top end power. The kid arrived ready to install, but some small fabrication was needed to install the front wheel kit. You can choose front or rear wheel drive, but the dropouts will usually need to be widened to accept the 14mm axle instead of the standard 12mm. Once you have done the install, and charged the batteries, you are ready to roll. The Racer is fast. Be careful, and do follow the advice to upgrade your front and rear brakes becuse the bike will go much faster than it was ever intended to go. I exceeded the manufacturer range specs because I used pedal power most of the time. The times I benefited from the motor were usually long stretches with no stop signs or stoplights. I would pedal to get off the line from a stop, and up hills so the battery life was greatly spared by doing this. I would roll on the throttle once I was on a long straightaway, or up to speed with no stops in sight. The top speed was around 40, I believe, and I only came to this conclusion after asking a gentleman that was pacing right next to me, "Hey! How fast are we going right now!?" He replied, "40!!". I didn't have a cyclometer, so that is the "unofficial top speed". The bike took me on one of the longest journeys that I have been on in a long time. I did quite a bit of pedaling around town, and in the suburbs, but on the long open roads, I let her loose and ripped around at around 40 mph. The Crystalyte brushless hub motors are the most powerful motors that I have ever had the pleasure of riding, and I would highly recommend this kit to anyone that wants to get to work without a car, or just get some exercise and have a motor if you get too tired. This kit is probably not the best for younger kids 12 and under, because of it's capabilities, but the parent or guardian should be the judge of that. Overall, the Crystalyte Phoenix Racer Electric Bike Kit is the fastest electric vehicle that I have tested yet, and it is a solid, efficient, cost effective method of fun transportation. Pros: -Very fast -Comes pre-wired and ready to ride -Convenient storage included -Utilizes your personal bicycle -Smart charger shuts off the charger when the batteries are full -Battery indicator gauge -Keyed ignition -3-5 hour charge time -Almost 3 horsepower!!!! -Front or Rear wheel drive available -Multiple styles of throttle to acommidate different braking and shifting configuration -Too much fun Cons: -Had to open up the dropouts to fit the larger axle (easy if you have the tools) -Too fast -Too fun If you want to purchase the kit that I tested, you can visit www.urbanscooters.com Crystalyte Phoenix Racer Electric Bicycle Kit. |
